Guitar Tricks By Dan Torres

Adding the tone control function to the bridge pickup of a Stratocaster:

This is a real simple trick. All you are really doing is adding a jumper on the strat 5 way switch so the middle pickup tone control is active on both the middle and bridge pickup.

The jumper just "short circuits" the assignment of the tone control so it works on both pickups.

This is a quick way to do it.

We wire custom strats so that there are "master" tone and midrange controls,

far more versatile and easier to understand.

Check out the Torres Torres BluesKaster Wiring Harness and BluesKaster Deluxe wiring harness for much more advanced tone controls on your guitar.

basic info:

Guitars have a "common ground" - all the ground wires go together and are normally soldered to the back of a pot. Usually this is all the black wires from single coil pickups.

If you have humbuckers or 4 conductor pickups, check out your color code chart (should have come with the pickups) for the ground and "hot" wires.

The capacitor on the tone control can vary in value over quite a wide range - it has nothing to do with this mod trick.
